Today’s card of the day celebrates Nolan Ryan! On this day in 1983, he becomes the all-time strikeout king passing Walter Johnson. Pitching for the Houston Astros, Ryan struck out Montreal Expos player Brad Mills for his 3,509th career strike out.
Ryan would go on to strike out 5,714 batters in his career, a number that has not been approached. He has more than 800 more strikeouts than the next closest pitcher, Randy Johnson (4,875 career K’s).
The card featured is a 1992 Upper Deck Then & Now Hologram. It can be picked up for just a few bucks on eBay.
