Mr. Padre: Tony Gwynn

On this day in 2014, Tony Gwynn passed away after a fight with cancer. Mr. Padre was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 after spending 20 years in the Major Leagues. Gwynn made 15 All Star teams during his career and amassed 3,141 hits and won eight batting titles. He also was a five time Gold Glover.

Gwynn has long been a fan favorite and therefor a highly collected player. He was chosen by Topps to be one of the 20 players featured in their Project 2020 set. You can pick up a raw version of his 1983 Topps rookie card in the $6 to $10 range.
