Retail Therapy: 2019 Panini Contenders Football Value Pack

On the way home from work, I made a stop at Target for milk. Of course I checked out the card aisle and grabbed a pack of something to rip. I’ve been on a football kick so I was hoping for some 2020 Score, but settled for a value pack of 2019 Panini Contenders.

I wasn’t really expecting too much out of this but the chance to pull an autograph or a rookie of one of the big QB’s from the draft class (Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, Dwayne HaskinsĀ and Drew Lock). Each Value Pack contains 22 cards and you can find retail exclusive Emerald Parallels and it cost $5.48 for the pack.

Here is what we got in our pack.

Kyler Murray Emerald Rookie of the Year Contenders, Aaron Rodgers Winning Ticket, Patrick Willis Legendary Contenders, J.J. Arches-Whiteside Rookie of the Year Contender, Josh Allen, Jacoby Brissett, Gareon Conley, Fletcher Cox, Aaron Donald, Joe Flacco, Jimmy Garoppolo, Myles Garrett, Kerryon Johnson, Travis Kelce, CJ Mosley, Josh Norman, Adrian Peterson, Calvin Ridley, Matt Ryan, Earl Thomas III, Leighton Vander Esch, Reggie White.

Grade: B

This pack was looking like it was a dud until I found my Emerald Parallel. It was great to see the Kyler Murray Rookie of the Year Contenders. This card looks even better in person that the picture and it really made the pack worth the pickup as it is selling around twice the price of the pack.

Other than that one card, the pack provided some material for future TTMs (through the mail autograph requests) but really nothing else. If I were in a pinch and felt like I wanted to pick up some football to rip, I would consider picking up another pack.
