John Elway – The Baseball Player

On this day in in 1960, Pro Football Hall of Famer John Elway was born. Elway had an interesting career in sports that included time on the football and baseball fields and as an executive in the NFL.

Elway’s first chance to play professional sports came in baseball. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 1981 draft. He played for the Yankees Rookie Ball team in Oneonta and hit .318 with 4 home runs in 42 games in 1982.

However, the 1983 NFL Draft would secure his future on the football field. He was the number 1 pick in the draft by the Baltimore Colts. He would use his leverage with baseball to force a trade to the Denver Broncos and the rest as they say is history.

While most of Elway’s collectibles are from football he can be found on some really cool baseball items. Take a look at some of his baseball items on eBay by click here.
