Retail Therapy: 2020 Topps Gypsy Queen Value Pack

Baseball is back! It was fun to rip open some packs and watch a live game last night. Today the remaining teams get back on the field and the baseball sprint towards the new expanded 16-team playoff will begin.

We decided to open a Value Pack of Topps 2020 Gypsy Queen. Gypsy Queen has become a fan favorite every year and the product is has a classic retro feel with the the modern bells and whistles including tons of variations (Missing Nameplates, Logo Swaps, Bazooka Backs, Player’s Weekend, Armed Forces Day, Jackie Robinson and tons of different color variations). This year’s set also includes a 20 card Extended base set that features legends and former fan favorites.

Gypsy Queen Value Packs run $9.49 at retail locations and feature 3 Packs with 6 cards each. There is also a bonus 3 card pack that has Green Parallels.

Here’s a look at what we got in our pack:

Pack 1:

Deion Sanders Extended Base Set (1:24 Packs), Gavin Lux Rookie, Jake Rogers Rookie, Trent Grisham Rookie, Mark Melancon, Miles Mikolas.

Pack 2:

Rafael Devers Tarot of the Diamond, Whit Merrifield, Paul DeJong, Dom Nunez Rookie, Tyler Alexander, Wilson Ramos

Pack 3:

Michel Báez Rookie, Aaron Civale Rookie, A.J. Puk Rookie, Nick Senzel, Joe Jiménez, Robbie Ray.

Bonus Green Parallel Pack:

Kyle Lewis Rookie, Yu Chang Rookie, Jorge Soler.

Grade: A-

These are fun, visually appealing cards. There are enough variations and parallels that you need to check each card for the code on the back, so that adds a fun element. Getting the Deion Sanders extended base card and the Lux Rookie Card more than paid for the value pack.

The cards are also perfect for TTM (Through the Mail autographing) as they don’t feature super glossy cards so that’s another bonus. There was also a huge rookie presence in my three packs and two of my three Green parallels to be rookie cards.

Other than an Autograph or a Luis Robert Rookie Card I couldn’t have realistically asked for anything more. I save the “A” grade for packs/boxes that deliver extreme value, but this was an outstanding box.
